“Don’t tell me to return home; I don’t want to die” — Bishop Obinim
Founder and leader of the International God’s Way Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim, has firmly ruled out any return to his family residence following escalating tensions within his household, despite emotional appeals from one of his children.
The outspoken clergyman, known for his controversial ministry and strong public statements, revealed during a church service that he had received a distressing voice message from his son, Gifted Obinim, shortly after he relocated from the family home.
Bishop Obinim played the audio for his congregation, in which his son alleged that his brother, Promise Obinim, had taken a luxury Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon belonging to the family during the night and crashed it. In the recording, Gifted reportedly urged his father to step in and restore discipline at home, saying neither he nor their mother, gospel musician Florence Obinim, was able to control the situation.
“Daddy, please, I am your son. You told me not to tell you anything about Promise, but I was asleep and Promise took the car out at night and crashed it. Daddy, please do something about it because I cannot do anything. Please come back home; you need to control Promise,” the voice note stated.
Following the playback, Bishop Obinim asked members of his church whether he should consider returning to the house, but the responses were mixed. One congregant expressed fear that he could be harmed if he went back, suggesting possible internal hostility within the family.
However, the clergyman dismissed all calls for reconciliation at the residence, insisting his decision was final and not subject to persuasion, even from close relatives.
“They already said I have left home, and I confirm it is true. I have left. I will not go back, and not even my parents, whom I respect deeply, can ask me to return and expect me to obey. My life matters to me,” Bishop Obinim said.
The situation reportedly escalated after earlier claims by Bishop Obinim that his wife, Florence Obinim, had changed due to influences he disapproved of. He subsequently moved out of the matrimonial home and settled in a luxury property at Trasacco, citing personal safety and ongoing family disagreements.
Florence Obinim, also a gospel musician, later responded publicly, indicating that she would not oppose a divorce if her husband had made up his mind to end the marriage.
Despite repeated appeals from within the family, Bishop Obinim’s latest remarks suggest he remains fully committed to staying away from the family home as tensions continue to unfold publicly.

“The G-Wagon I gave them was driven and crashed by my son, Promise. Now, my other son, Gifted, wants me to come home and restore order because their mother is reluctant, but I can’t because my safety comes first.”
