Cassandra Twum Ampofo, Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Ghana Education Service, GES, has cautioned heads of second-cycle institutions not to force parents/guardians to buy items on the prospectus from the school.
In a statement issued by the Acting Director General of Schools and instructions, Mr Prince Charles Agyemang Duah cautioned heads of schools over issuing of unapproved prospectus and unauthorized sale of items to freshers.
This came following allegations made by some parents/guardians who felt they are been cheated by some heads of schools over lengthy unapproved prospectus which they are also compelled to buy from the school before being given admission.
In an interview with Nana Yaw Mensah Joel on Oyerepa Breakfast Show, the PRO disclosed that the management of the GES has taken a strong decision over the unapproved prospectus and sale of unauthorized items to form one student.
According to her, GES is yet to run investigations into the issues to ensure that the right things are done in all schools.
“We’ve asked all heads of schools to stick with the approved harmonised prospectus for students.
We don’t want the situation where some students will not be able to report to school because of items on prospectus…” she said.
Cassandra Twum added that parents and guardians should be allowed to buy the approved items on the prospectus from the open market not in the school to avert any conflict of interest on the part of school authorities.
