Former Speaker of Parliament, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) contesting the flagbearer position to demonstrate true patriotism and unity.
Speaking at the launch of the Patriotic Institute in Accra, Prof. Oquaye stressed the importance of cooperation among party members, recalling the 1992 flagbearer race where, despite internal competition, there was a strong spirit of camaraderie. He noted that even those who lost the primaries rallied behind Professor Adu Boahen without resorting to personal attacks or division.
He called on current aspirants to follow that example by focusing on their achievements, contributions to the party, and their vision for Ghana. “If we do that, this party will be successful,” he stated.
Prof. Oquaye also issued a stern warning against division within the party, referencing the 1979 elections, where internal rifts contributed to electoral defeat. “Anyone who perceives the pathway of division is not working in the interest of the party and must be excused,” he cautioned.
