The electoral commission of Ghana has rescheduled the voting in the ongoing district-level elections in some electoral areas in the Ashanti and Eastern regions to Thursday, December 21, 2023.
According to the Commission, the reason for this decision is due to technical challenges.
Meanwhile, voting is currently taking place nationwide for the election of assembly members and unit committee members in various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).
Over 66,000 individuals are competing for assembly and unit committee positions in the local polls.
According to the statistics provided by the Electoral Commission, there are 18,755 candidates running for assembly member positions, while an additional 47,502 candidates are competing for unit committee member positions. In total, there are 66,257 candidates participating in these elections.
