Desmond Kwame Abrefah, the independent presidential candidate for the 2024 elections, has come out swinging against the Electoral Commission (EC) after being disqualified from the presidential race.
Abrefah claims the EC reneged on its promise to inform candidates of disqualification officially before making it public. Instead, he learned of his disqualification through a media call after the EC’s press conference. He deemed this unprofessional and damaging to the electoral process’s credibility.
Kwame Abrefah further hinted that the EC’s reason for disqualifying him—providing “wrong”information”—contradicts their initial instructions to correct “incomplete forms.”.
During the press briefing, Abrefah pointed out the EC’s mistake in their letter, stating they used the wrong adjective. The EC initially cited “incomplete records of supporters” on pages 7, 9, 53, 36, and 86, which Abrefah corrected.
However, the EC later told the public he was disqualified for providing “wrong information.” Abrefah questioned how “incomplete” and “wrong information” can have the same meaning.
Abrefah believes the EC’s inconsistency in communication makes his disqualification illegal and suspects sinister motives behind the decision. He is calling on the EC to reconsider urgently or face legal action from his lawyers.
