The Deputy Minister for Energy and Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa West, Richard Gyan Mensah, has announced plans to provide 4,000 school desks for Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Junior High Schools (JHSs) across the district as part of efforts to improve teaching and learning.

The announcement was made during the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a three-unit classroom block at the Mozano D/A Basic School in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region.

Addressing the media after the ceremony, the MP said his office was also taking steps to address the shortage of teachers’ accommodation by constructing teachers’ bungalows in selected communities across the district.

According to him, the provision of decent accommodation for teachers will help attract and retain qualified educators, particularly in underserved communities, while improving the quality of education.

He also appealed to traditional authorities and residents to support the government’s development agenda to accelerate infrastructure and social development in the constituency.

Meanwhile, the Gomoa West District Chief Executive (DCE), Alhaji Mohammed Kassim, disclosed that the three-unit classroom block is expected to be completed within four months.

He said the project would provide pupils with a safer and more conducive learning environment while helping to ease the infrastructure challenges facing the school.

The DCE added that the government remains committed to improving educational facilities across the district, revealing that a number of completed school projects would soon be commissioned and handed over to their respective communities.

The Chief of Mozano, Nana Takyi I, commended the MP and the DCE for initiating the classroom project, describing it as a significant investment that would enhance teaching and learning in the community.

He expressed optimism that the new facility would improve educational outcomes and appealed for continued support to address other development needs in the area.
