Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has recognized the significant role played by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II in resolving the Bawku conflict through traditional means.
His remarks followed a visit to the Asantehene on Friday, February 14, where discussions focused on achieving lasting peace in the troubled region.
Dr. Boamah emphasized that Otumfuo has been at the forefront of leading traditional efforts to resolve the dispute.
“Otumfuo is the traditional leader spearheading efforts to find a customary solution to the conflict,” he stated, highlighting the crucial role of chieftaincy in conflict resolution.
He assured that the government remains committed to complementing Otumfuo’s efforts with security measures aimed at ensuring lasting peace.
This dual approach aims to address both the deep-rooted traditional tensions and immediate security concerns in Bawku.
The Defence Minister expressed confidence that collaboration between government authorities and traditional leaders would lead to a meaningful resolution.
He reiterated President John Dramani Mahama’s dedication to working closely with Otumfuo and other key stakeholders to establish long-term stability in the region.
