Ghanaian medical laboratory technologist Oheneba Ntim Barima has shared an account of a conversation he says he once had with highlife legend Daddy Lumba, during which the musician allegedly revealed he had been poisoned in the past.
Speaking on United Showbiz on December 6, 2025, Oheneba claimed that Daddy Lumba told him he believed he was poisoned through a Ghanaian meal—specifically fufu.
According to him, the musician said that shortly after eating the meal, he began experiencing severe stomach pains.
Oheneba added that when Lumba was taken to the hospital, an initial scan led doctors to suspect he had swallowed cocaine, a misunderstanding that caused him to be left unattended for more than two hours.
“They poisoned him, and he even told me where it happened. According to him, they poisoned him through fufu, so after he finished eating, that was when the complications began. He cries anytime he recounts this story.
“He told me that when the pain started, a scan was conducted, and they detected some round objects in his stomach. The white doctors thought he had swallowed cocaine, so they ignored him… After two hours, when they realised he wasn’t dying, they ran another scan and discovered it was poison,” he said.
Oheneba Ntim Barima, however, refuted circulating allegations that Daddy Lumba was poisoned by his first spouse, Akosua Serwaa.
According to him, the highlife icon told him that it was rather some friends who were responsible for the alleged poisoning.
“The man really suffered… I never said Akosua Serwaa poisoned him. He told me that some friends were the ones who gave him the poison. After the incident, he suffered several health complications,” he added.
