The Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has revealed that the government’s Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has apprehended several individuals involved in MoMo fraud and other cybercriminal activities.
In a post on X on January 26, 2026, Minister George reported that the weekend operation, carried out by the CSA in collaboration with the Greater Accra Regional Command, led to the arrest of three Nigerians and a Ghanaian landlord near Sakumono for their involvement in SIMbox operations.
“The CSA, together with the Greater Accra Regional Command and the CID of the Ghana Police Service, delivered a significant blow to cybercriminals this past weekend,” he stated.
He explained that the first operation, conducted across three locations around Sakumono, successfully dismantled a sophisticated SIMbox network. Three Nigerian nationals, along with a Ghanaian landlord, were taken into custody for their roles in the operation.
In a separate operation in the Volta Region, Minister George disclosed that three Ghanaians were arrested for offenses including sextortion, MoMo fraud, and impersonation.
“The suspects in Vakpo had pretended to be me, the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, to defraud unsuspecting members of the public,” he added.
All the individuals arrested have been processed and are currently awaiting trial, as the authorities work to ensure they face the full force of the law.
