Renowned gospel artist, Fred Oware Junior, has raised concerns about the trend of rushing to release songs among today’s musicians.
He believes that this haste is hindering the growth of the Ghanaian gospel music industry.
During a recent interview on Oyerepa Entertainment Review with host MFK, the talented ‘Afe Sesee’ crooner reflected on his own experience in the industry.
He mentioned that in his prime, it would take him and other respected artists like Daughters of Glorious Jesus and Papa Kusi Berko several months to release a single song.
In contrast, Fred noted that many current artists are quick to drop new tracks without taking the time to ensure quality and relevance.
He emphasized that they seem more focused on following trends rather than creating meaningful music that resonates with listeners.
“The composition of songs during our days mostly took us so long. I remember it took me 6 months to release ‘Afe Sesee’. We used to do a lot of things, for instance, wait in the presence of the Lord before a track or an album is released. But of late most musicians are lazy.
They want to trend; therefore they don’t wait for the right time to release their songs. They want trends more than the relevance and the longevity of their songs.”
He mentioned that the current attitude towards gospel music has caused a decline in the genre’s popularity. Nevertheless, he and his colleagues are dedicated to revitalizing gospel music.
The negative attitudes towards gospel music have had a detrimental impact on its popularity. However, my colleagues and I are committed to doing everything in our power to breathe new life into this cherished genre.”
When asked by MFK if he was worried, Oware Jnr responded; “A lot of us are worried. Some pastors even call me to encourage the current artiste to emulate how it was being done in the olden days.”
