A coalition of Civil Society Organisations under the Citizens Platform on Constitutional Reforms (CPCR) has joined forces to present a people-centered vision for Ghana’s constitutional reform.

Outlining key points in a position paper at a press conference in Accra, the Chairperson of the Steering Committee for CPCR, Prof. Akosua Darkwa, said there is no need to amend the constitution to introduce a 5-year presidential term.

According to her, if there is a consensus on election timing, the voting period should be moved to November to allow enough time for preparation and a smooth handover of power.

Prof. Darkwa emphasized that all awarded projects should continue regardless of a change in government, to ensure continuity and protect public resources.

She further stated that increasing the number of parliamentarians is unnecessary, noting that the current number should be maintained to ensure accountability and effective governance.

The platform said its proposals are aimed at ensuring that the constitutional review process reflects the aspirations of the ordinary Ghanaian and strengthens democratic governance.
