The President, John Dramani Mahama, has vowed that Ghana will not cede any street, community, or public space to criminals, assuring the public that the state will decisively protect the safety of citizens.
Speaking at the presentation of 40 armoured and operational vehicles to the Ghana Police Service at the Police Headquarters in Accra, the President said the government is fully committed to strengthening security and empowering the police with adequate tools to fight crime.
He praised the police for recent successes in combating armed robbery, bank attacks, and unresolved murder cases, noting that improved intelligence work has led to the arrest of many suspects.
“Our highways are getting safer because you have taken on the robbers and dealt with them. Many who disturb the peace of citizens have been arrested and brought to justice,” he said.
President Mahama said the newly procured vehicles, including armoured units, pickups, and other support machines, mark just the first batch of equipment to be delivered. He disclosed that two tow trucks and 10 additional operational vehicles will arrive before the end of the month, while each police district will also receive pickup vehicles for patrol duties.
He further announced plans to train special police detachments in drone surveillance, intelligence gathering, and rapid response operations to improve public safety nationwide.
According to the President, equipping the police appropriately will prevent the loss of officers during high-risk duties. “Many police officers have died because they were sent into operations without the right tools. That will be a thing of the past,” he assured.
President Mahama stressed that peace is not accidental, noting that security must be built through investment, professionalism, and vigilance. He maintained that the fight against crime will be firm and uncompromising.
He reiterated that the government will not allow lawlessness to take root, promising strong visible policing and improved communication systems to support crime-fighting efforts across the country.
