The Ashanti Regional Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Issah Abdul Salam, has sharply criticised the party’s national leadership, accusing them of lacking seriousness and failing to maintain political relevance outside of election seasons.
Speaking during a panel discussion on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, hosted by Kwesi Parker Wilson, Mr. Abdul Salam lamented what he described as the dormancy of the party in between election cycles.
“We are sleeping; the CPP is sleeping. When we wake up, you will hear from us. It is not that we are taking Ghanaians for granted, but it is the party leadership that is not serious.” he stated.
His comments come at a time when internal concerns about the CPP’s visibility and influence in national discourse continue to grow, especially as the country approaches another election cycle.
Despite his dissatisfaction with the party’s current state, Mr. Abdul Salam affirmed his continued membership in the CPP, expressing hope for future reform.
“I am still a member because I hope for a better time,” he said, suggesting that his loyalty to the party is rooted in optimism for a revival of its founding ideals.
The CPP, once a dominant political force in Ghana’s post-independence era under Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, has in recent years struggled to maintain electoral significance.
