The Member of Parliament for Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency in the Ashanti region, Mr Emmanuel Agyei Anwhere, has expressed his belief that if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had been in power during the COVID-19 era, many Ghanaians would have lost their lives.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Ghana has reported 171,653 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 1,462 deaths from January 3, 2020, to July 2023.
During an interview on the Oyerepa Breakfast Show, hosted by Sometymer Otuo Acheampong, the Atwima Nwabiagya South Lawmaker emphasized that Ghana would have experienced a significantly higher number of deaths if the opposition NDC had been in control.
He credited the swift and intelligent intervention of the NPP government, led by President Akufo-Addo, for effectively managing the situation and resulting in a lower death toll.
Mr Anwhere acknowledged that the country faced economic challenges due to the pandemic. It has experienced rapid growth under the competent leadership of President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia.
“Covid-19 shattered many economies but thank God we had a competent leader like President Akufo-Addo and the NPP in government. If the other party (NDC) was at the helm of affairs, a lot of Ghanaians may have died. So Ghanaians should thank God, Nana Addo perfectly managed the situation,” the Atwima Nwabiagya South legislator stated.
