The Kade District Court has remanded five suspects in connection with the assault on Michael Quayson, a teacher at Kade Senior High Technical School in the Eastern Region.
The case was heard on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, following the incident, which has sparked concern within the education sector. Four of the suspects, all adults, pleaded guilty and were remanded into prison custody.
The fifth suspect, a 17-year-old minor, was remanded into police custody pending the transfer of the case to a Juvenile Court.
The accused persons are expected to reappear before the court on January 20, 2026.
Reacting to the development, the Ghana Education Service (GES) commended the prompt legal action, describing it as a clear demonstration of the Ministry of Education and GES’s commitment to protecting teachers and maintaining discipline within schools.
GES cautioned students and the general public against attacking educators, stressing that such acts would be met with strict legal sanctions. The Service also reiterated its resolve to safeguard teachers and uphold the credibility and integrity of national examinations, including the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
