Court issues arrest warrant for Manhyia South MP in EOCO investigation
The High Court in Accra has reportedly granted the Economic and Organised Crime Office a warrant to arrest Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, the MP for Manhyia South.
According to a report by 3news.com, the court granted the warrant after lawyers for the Economic and Organised Crime Office applied on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
The report indicated that EOCO, through its lawyers, told the court its officers had exhausted reasonable means of securing Baffour Awuah’s voluntary appearance with regard to an ongoing investigation.
It argued that the arrest was necessary because of fears of documents relevant to the investigations being concealed, altered or destroyed.
It also sought a warrant to search for and seize relevant documents, which was reportedly granted.
The latest development comes following a botched attempt to arrest the Manhyia South legislator by EOCO days ago.
The attempted arrest took place on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at the premises of the Accra High Court and was captured in videos circulating on social media.
According to EOCO in a statement dated September 23, 2026, the MP was invited twice in February 2026 to assist with the investigation but did not honour the invitations.
“The Office had previously invited Hon Baffour Awuah to assist with the investigation on two occasions in February 2026. The invitations were not honoured,” EOCO said.
The office said it subsequently took steps to secure his attendance in line with the law, describing today’s attempted arrest as one of those steps.
“EOCO wishes to clarify that its officers, acting in the lawful discharge of their statutory responsibilities, attempted to effect the arrest of Hon. Baffour today, 23 September 2026, in connection with an ongoing investigation,” it explained.
The investigation is reportedly in relation to Baffour Awuah’s representation of SIC Life Insurance Limited in a case way before he became an MP.
Speaking in an interview on Accra FM after the suit, on Monday, September 28, 2026, the Akwatia MP Bernard Bediako Baidoo shared details of supposed evidence gathered by EOCO against the colleague legislator, including the claim that he, without the knowledge of the board of SIC Life, renegotiated a judgment the state-owned enterprise had won as a micro-credit firm, Equity Micro-Finance.
Bernard Baidoo said that the Manhyia South legislator, on behalf of his law firm, represented SIC Life in its case against Equity after the private company could not pay back a loan of GH¢6 million.
“When he was going to court, SIC gave him GH¢280,000. The court awarded a judgment in favour of SIC for the sale of the microfinance company’s property, which was worth GH¢25 million. The auctioneer the court appointed to sell the property had even gotten a buyer, and the deal was almost done.
“All of a sudden, another company called Eco Swiss came into the frame claiming that Equity Micro Finance had sold the said property (a land) to them long ago… The matter went to court, and before the court could even determine the true owner of the land, Baffour Awuah went to settle the matter of the state entity. As we speak, this is no board decision which permitted him to do that,” the Akwatia legislator said.
Bernard Baidoo indicated that the evidence from EOCO also showed that Baffour Awuah was paid by all three companies involved in the matter – SIC Life, Eco Swiss and Equity – even though he was supposed to be only a lawyer for the state-owned company.
“He settled with Eco Swiss for them to pay GH¢5 million for that loan facility whose principal was even GH¢6 million for the matter to die. These are things Baffour Awuah signed as a solicitor. But as a solicitor, he has to prove here he got the authority to renegotiate a judgment of GH¢14 million.
“After this, Eco Swiss gave Baffour Awuah GH¢2.2 million. What was this for? You were not their lawyer… All of these are from EOCO documents. As if this was not enough, the people from Equity also gave him over GH¢600,000,” he said.
The Akwatia MP also claimed that the then Managing Director of SIC Life Insurance, Amma Frimpomaa Dwumah, was given GH¢1 million by Baffour Awuah and his law firm.
