Dr. Aaron Kumah, a Senior Lecturer at the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), has charged the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) headed by Jean Mensah to come clearly and condemn Bryan Acheampong’s statement that, the NPP will do whatever it takes to win the impending 2024 elections.
Recall that the Member of Parliament for Abetifi Constituency, who doubles as the Agric Minister addressing NPP supporters at a campaign rally at Nsawam, said: …”The NPP would win the elections. The NPP exists to win elections…..”
“So, we would do whatever it takes to win the elections. We are a political party that has pastors, imams, and traditionalists so whatever means we would take to win the elections, we would do so. ‘Burn the sea if you don’t understand, we’ll win and continue with our good works.”
Speaking in a panel discussion on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, on Thursday, regarding NDC’s reluctance to sign the Peace Pact brought before the party by the National Peace Council, Dr. Aaron Kumah stated that, EC should”ve come out and condemn Bryn Acheampong’s comments.
According to him, those comments by the Agric Minister could hinder the country’s peace because he does not determine who Ghanaians should hand over power to.
“EC should’ve come out and condemned Bryan Acheampong’s statement that ‘we will win power at all costs’. They should’ve told him that, his statement would hinder their work. Because the people who have the power to control and declare election is not him (Bryan Acheampong). In fact, I was even expecting President Akufo-Addo to rebuke that gentleman(Bryan Acheampong).” Dr Kumah stated.
