The Ministry of Education’s spokesperson, Kwasi Kwarteng, has assured that the principals of the college of education’s concerns about students funding for their feed will be addressed.
Due to the government’s failure to provide them with feeding grants, the principals of the colleges of education in Ghana have petitioned the Ministry of Education to allow their students to cater for their feeding expenses themselves, effective Monday, November 7, 2022.
They claim that food suppliers have refused to supply their institutions with food because government payments have been delayed and market inflation is high.
The principles lamented that the budgeted amount for food items by the government for these institutions has not been increased despite the increase in the prices of food items on the market.
Kwasi Kwarteng, speaking to Kwesi Parker Wilson on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, revealed that there would be a stakeholders meeting to resolve the matter.
“The various stakeholders will sit to deliberate on the issue and I am confident that before the stipulated time, the government will have met their concerns and there may be no need for the students to fend for themselves as proposed by the heads of these institutions. Reviews and changes will also be made where needed. ” He assured.
