OPEN LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF GHANA.
Subject: Why you have to consider some public interest advocates who supported your reelection bid to serve in your government.
Your Excellency John Dramani Mahama,
I hope this letter finds you well. Since meeting you in person will be difficult, I deem it fit to use this medium to convey my advocacy message to you for your kind consideration.
Mr. President, my letter is very brief. But before I go further, kindly permit me to use a quote in the good book to build a point. Proverb 3:3 says “Never let go of loyalty and faithfulness”
The above verse encourages us to hold onto loyalty and faithfulness, and to write them on our hearts.
Walter Winchell words of wisdom says “A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out”
In my view your Excellency, the following public interest advocates are your true friends and loyalists in the civic space. I call them the fiercest defenders of Ghana’s democracy due to their bold, uncompromising nature and consistent way of advocacy. They fought for Ghana under very bizarre circumstances.
Mr. President, I present them in no particular order of importance;
1. Adam Bonaa (PhD)
2. Mensah Thompson
3. Richard Kasu
4. David Kumi Addo
5. Azubila Salam
6. Nana Ntow Amerikyi
7. Rex Omar
8. Chief Bernard Mornah
9. Felix Best Agorvo
10. Listowel Nana Poku
Sir, the above individuals some of whom you might not know readily or physically are more than indomitable lions. They really worked hard in defense of Ghana’s democracy. When the so called moral voices went silent under President Nana Addo, they defied the odds and spoke their minds to the admiration of many.
They utilized limited resources to organize public forum, press conferences, demonstrations, picketting, stakeholder dialogues etc..under very dangerous circumstances. Their public advocacy on national issues in no small way complemented your efforts resulting in an emphatic victory of 7th December, 2024.
Mr. President, as a citizen who refuse to be a spectator, I have followed their public interest activities for years and strongly believe in their capabilities to help your government succeed.
As the title of my letter suggest, I am writing to advocate and lobby for their inclusion in your government as a reward for their hard work and forthrightness on issues of national importance. Additionally, their inclusion will help them bring their diverse perspectives to bear including enriching policy discussions and facilitating collaboration between government, civil society organizations (CSOs) and the private sector with the view of building the Ghana we want together.
Respectfully submitted.
Thank you for your kind attention.
Sincerely,
O.B Kofi
