Ghana’s 2024 general elections have been hailed as peaceful and successful by the Commonwealth Observer Group.
Dr. Mokgweetsi Masisi, the head of the observer group, praised Ghana for its composure during the elections, which were deemed free, fair, transparent, and decisive. The group’s assessment is significant, given Ghana’s reputation as a stable democracy in the region.
The former Botswana president Dr. Masisi thanked the Ghanaian government and institutions for their efforts, noting that Ghana remains a shining star in the region.
He also expressed his intention to share the success story with other Commonwealth member states, highlighting the hope for Africa’s democratic dispensation.
The Commonwealth Observer Group’s commendation is a testament to Ghana’s commitment to democratic excellence.
The group’s chair, Dr. Masisi, has encouraged the National Election Security Task Force, led by Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akufo Dampare, to share their experiences with other Commonwealth countries.
This positive assessment echoes the group’s previous commendations for Ghana’s elections. In 2016, the Commonwealth Observer Group praised Ghana’s peaceful and orderly conduct of the general elections, citing the country’s commitment to democracy and peace.
