Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as Chairman Coka and a prominent figure within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called for caution and respect in the party’s internal discourse as preparations begin for the 2028 elections.
Chairman Coka urged NPP members to be mindful of their language and conduct during internal contests, warning that attacks on individuals from different camps could ultimately harm the party’s image and unity.
He emphasized that regardless of internal competition, the NPP will present a single candidate to the Ghanaian electorate, and any public denigration of contenders could weaken the party’s chances at the polls.
Expressing concern over the tone of recent debates, he suggested that the party should consider releasing the Mike Ocquaye report to serve as a guiding framework for party members’ communication.
In a Facebook post, he appealed for decorum and encouraged supporters of aspiring flagbearers to conduct their campaigns with mutual respect and a focus on unity.
He said “You have the right to support whoever you want in any internal contest, but do it peacefully with respect for the other candidates because in the end, we will have to market the winner to Ghanaian voters. Ghanaians will support only one NPP candidate, so let’s be careful about what we say today against each other. I wish Professor Mike Oquaye’s report were made public to stakeholders in the Party to guide us all. May God help us to understand. Amen. Coka, I care”.
