The 2022 National Best Farmer of Ghana, Nana Yaw Sarpong Siriboe has mentioned climate change as one of the factors that hinder the work of farmers.
Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, Monday, the Mechanical Engineer cum farmer indicated that, planters go through a lot of challenges in their field of work.
According to him, climate change has been a major hindrance to agriculture in the country. The lack of rain and heavy winds usually destroy farms and this unfailingly does not help farmers to increase yields.
“The challenge in farming is climate change. Sometimes you may cultivate crops and it will not rain. Sometimes a heavy wind will destroy your crops.”
He added that airborne disease mostly destroys farms therefore there is a need to ensure neighbouring farmers are practising the right farming methods.
“It’s most likely an airborne disease will strike your farm. So it’s very important to see to it that, your neighbouring farmers are practising the right method of farming because if you don’t do that, a disease from them will affect your farm.” Nana Yaw Sarpong Siriboe stated.
