Abraham Boadi, a former Presiding Member of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and a strong supporter of Alan Kyerematen has made serious allegations regarding the intimidation tactics being used by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti regional chairman towards party delegates.
According to him, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi is putting fear in the delegates so as to vote for Dr Bawumia.
Opooman’s comments are in relation to a recent video where Wontumi was captured engaging top officials within the party to endorse Bawumia during the Vice President’s visit to the Oforikrom constituency. At the gathering, Chairman Wontumi approached various individuals purported to be NPP delegates and asked them directly, “Who do you want us to vote for?” and each person he approached openly endorsed Dr. Bawumia.
Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Show moderated by Sometymer Otuo Acheampong, Friday, Opooman openly condemned Wontumi’s deliberate actions, stating that, it is a sort of intimidation.
According to Abraham Boadi, the Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman has no authority to ask people to forcibly endorse Dr Bawumia.
He said, Chairman Wontumi has pocketed the NPP in the Region as his personal property which he believes will affect the party in 2024.
However, he (Opooman) will not sit aloof and watch him (Wontumi) do what he desires because when the party was formed in 1992, he (Wontumi) was organizing prayers in school parks, he was not a member.
“Wontumi is intimidating NPP delegates in Ashanti Region. He has pocketed NPP in Ashanti as if it is his personal property. We’re not afraid of anyone here in Kumasi.
Some of us when we started working for the party Wontumi wasn’t a member. The party was formed in 1992 and in 1994 I had my party card, by then Wontumi was not a member, he was a pastor organising prayers on Ahinsan School Park.” Opooman revealed.
He will continue to fight people in the NPP who have made up their minds to intimidate and harass delegates to vote for Bawumia to become flagbearer, Opooman said.
