The family of one Madam Juliana, a resident at Ayigya in the Oforikrom Municipal of the Ashanti region, has petitioned President John Dramani Mahama, the Interior Minister, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka and the Police IGP, COP Christian Tetteh Yohunu over what they describe as compromised justice by the KNUST Police officers (TECH POLICE) in a case involving the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).
The Family’s lawyer, Kofi Kusi Oduro Asomadu-ESQ, in a press conference, said his client (Juliana) owns two buildings at Ayigya registered in her own name.
He states that in 2015, Madam Juliana secured a loan bond from Standard Chartered Bank, with one of the buildings (a storey building) serving as Collateral.
In default of payment of the loan, the Bank filed an application to the Accra High Court to secure a sale order of the Said building at Ayigya.
The Court, after a successful valuation of the property, granted the sale of the house by the bank at GHS 220,000.00. The bank was ordered to sell the house at the Court’s determined price, and after the sale, the bank should deduct its loan from the amount and give the balance to the loan defaulter. (Madam Juliana).
According to the Lawyer, the bank, after not getting a buyer at that amount determined by the Accra Court (GHS 220,000.oo), whimsically defied the Court’s orders and sold the House at a reduced price of GHS 180,000 to some Immigration officers without the consent of the property owner (Juliana) and evicted all the tenants who were then living in the house.
Lawyer Kofi Kusi Oduro Asomadu, giving the series of accounts, says that his Client, after noticing a reduced sales price of her property, challenged the transaction at the High Court in Kumasi.
“Kumasi High Court in its ruling of the case sighted fraud and collusion in the transaction, declaring the entire sales null and void, mandating Madam Juliana to take full control of the house until the due process is observed by the bank…” Lawyer recounted.
He disclosed that the court, after ruling in favour of the family, ordered the immediate eviction of the Immigration officers under the supervision of the Court’s Bailiff, called Hubert.
On the day of the Execution of the Court’s order to evict the immigration officers, SWAT OFFICERS from the Ghana police were called to assist in the eviction of the officers.
Some Videos sighted by Oyerepa FM’s Okogyeabour Ocran confirmed the eviction of the Immigration officers from the house.
In confirmation of the said video, the family’s Lawyer confirmed the video, but in a sharp contrast, the Lawyer revealed that the SWAT officers later left the scene for a different assignment.
The lawyer said that the Immigration officers, after noticing the absence of the SWAT team, capriciously packed back into the house.
The Immigration officers, after their alleged refusal to vacate the building, retaliated against the family with heinous attacks on the woman ( Juliana) and her family, Julian Nana Kwame and Frank.
(The two sons of the woman were seen in a video sighted by the Oyerepa FM’s investigations team bleeding from the head, nose and ears)
It must be noted that other Videos, including CCTV footage, show how the Immigration officers dressed in Uniform in their Numbers climbing a ladder in an attempt to invade the Woman’s house through a fenced wall. Other Videos capture the Immigration officers throwing stones towards the woman and vandalising the CCTV cameras, breaking Doors, glass windows and the roof of the family’s residence, including the smashing of their Mercedes-Benz parked on the compound of the Woman.
A thorough investigation into the matter by the team led by Okogyeabour Ocran revealed that the electricity metering system of the house was also vandalised by the alleged attack by the officers, with blood stains on the walls of the building.
Another shocking audiovisual scene available captured the Immigration officers who were clearly heard in voices, threatening to kill one of the sons of the woman called Julian, who was then locked up in his own room amidst tyre burning on the house’s compound by these rampaging Immigration officers.
After all these horrific Accounts, the lawyer finds it dismay and misconduct of the police officers at KNUST (TECH POLICE) to have connived with the Immigration officers, arresting the injured family, detaining them in their Custody for no crime committed.
Lawyer maintained that his client cannot stay in her own house for fear of his life due to the series of threats made by the Immigration officers.
He then appealed to all the offices petitioned to expedite Justice in the matter.
