The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC) and the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) have voiced their strong disapproval over being excluded from the upcoming National Education Forum, scheduled for February 18-19, 2025.
In a press statement released on February 17, the two major religious bodies described their omission as a significant setback to inclusive dialogue on the future of education in Ghana.
“As key stakeholders in the education sector, particularly in providing quality education through our institutions, we are perplexed by our exclusion from discussions that are critical to the future of education in Ghana,” the statement read.
The GCBC and CCG have long played a vital role in Ghana’s education system, managing numerous schools and advocating for policies that reflect national values, traditions, and aspirations. They argue that their exclusion weakens efforts to build a fair and comprehensive education system.
“Our absence from this crucial forum undermines the collaborative spirit necessary for the success of any educational policy or reform. A truly national discourse on education must involve all stakeholders, including religious bodies, educators, and parents, whose contributions help shape policies that align with the values and aspirations of the Ghanaian people.”
The organizations emphasized that sidelining them from such a key discussion disregards their decades of commitment to improving education and ensuring that every Ghanaian child, regardless of background or beliefs, has access to quality learning opportunities.
As a result, they are calling on the government, particularly the Ministry of Education, to reconsider their exclusion and extend an invitation, ensuring a more inclusive and representative forum.
