Member of Ghanaian music duo Keche, Joshua Kojo Ampah, popularly known as Keche Joshua, has expressed frustration over the poor sanitation situation at East Legon in Accra, after spotting heaps of rubbish dumped under the East Legon overhead bridge.

In a video shared online, the musician questioned why some Ghanaians continue to disregard proper waste disposal practices despite the devastating floods that recently hit parts of Accra and claimed several lives.

Pointing his camera at the piles of refuse, Keche Joshua said: “Look at the filth! The East Legon overhead. Look at this! Why are we like this? Why is the Blackman like this? What kind of mindset do we have?”

The artiste argued that improving Ghana’s sanitation situation requires a change in attitude and mindset among citizens.

“We need to go inside the mind of the Blackman and do a reset. Because what is this? Why can’t we learn?” he added.

Keche Joshua further referenced the June 29, 2026 floods, which caused widespread destruction in the capital, saying the situation should have served as a warning about the dangers of blocked drainage systems and improper waste disposal.

“Just recently, we saw the floods and what happened as a result of choked gutters. And so soon, filth has started covering the city again. Why?” he questioned.

His comments come weeks after President John Dramani Mahama announced a nationwide cleanup exercise aimed at addressing sanitation challenges following the flooding crisis in Accra.

The musician’s remarks have sparked discussions online, with many agreeing that sustained behavioural change is needed to keep Ghana’s communities clean beyond organised cleanup campaigns.
