Camidoh, a talented Ghanaian artist and creator of the hit song “Sugarcane,” unfortunately did not win his first BET award.
He missed out on the 2023 BET Viewers Choice: Best New International Act award at this year’s ceremony, which took place on June 25th.
The coveted crown was won by Cameroonian singer/songwriter Libianca, who beat out a talented group of nominees including Camidoh, Werenoi (France), FLO (UK), Raye (UK), Maureen (France), MC Ryan SP (Brazil), Paris Cooper (South African), and Nigeria’s Asake.
Despite the disappointment of not winning, Camidoh’s fans on social media remain optimistic about his future global success. It’s clear that Camidoh has a bright future ahead of him, and his fans are excited to see what he will achieve in the coming years.
This year’s BET awards also saw strong representation from West Africa. Nigerian superstar Davido wowed the audience with his eclectic performance, while his fellow countryman Burna Boy made history by becoming the first African artist to win the Best International Act award four times.
TEMS also won Best Collaboration with Future and Drake.
Camidoh adds up to the number of Ghanaian artists who have earned nominations in previous years.
