A market woman tragically lost her life, and an Okada rider is in a coma following a fatal accident that occurred in the early hours of today at Biakoye in the Gomoa East District, along the Kasoa–Winneba highway.

According to eyewitnesses, the motorcyclist, believed to be in his early 30s, was riding at high speed from Fetteh Kakraba towards Liberia Camp when he struck the woman as she attempted to cross the road.

The deceased, reportedly in her 40s, was carrying a bucket of fish and trying to board a vehicle to go to the market when the speeding motorcycle hit her.

Eyewitnesses indicated that the impact dragged her for about 50 meters due to the rider’s high speed. The woman died on the spot, while the motorcyclist remains in a coma.

Some residents who spoke to Nana Ansah expressed concern over the frequent use of the inner lane by motorcyclists. They explained that the stretch of road is currently under construction, yet riders continue to use it at excessive speeds, posing serious dangers to pedestrians who often cross the highway.

Personnel from the Awutu Bereku Police Command arrived promptly at the scene and conveyed the body to St. Gregory Hospital. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
