Tensions flared at Gomoa Nyanyano in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region as angry residents and commercial drivers hooted, heckled, and nearly assaulted the Member of Parliament for Gomoa East, Desmond De-Graft Kwesi Paitoo, over the deteriorating state of the Kasoa–Nyanyano road.

Residents say the Kasoa–Nyanyano road has become a death trap after years of unfulfilled promises to rehabilitate it. The road serves Gomoa Nyanyano and surrounding communities, which have a combined population of more than 100,000 people.

According to residents, the contractor working on the project abandoned the site after the government allegedly failed to provide the necessary mobilisation funds.

During a visit to the area after the National Sanitation Day exercise, some angry residents and taxi drivers reportedly hooted and heckled the MP, with the situation becoming tense before police officers intervened, rescued him from the crowd, and escorted him away.

Speaking to Nana Ansah, residents appealed to President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister for Roads and Highways to urgently intervene to ensure the completion of the road.

Some residents also expressed frustration and warned that the MP could face further hostility if the situation remains unresolved.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Gomoa East, Desmond De-Graft Kwesi Paitoo, acknowledged that he was hooted at and that the atmosphere became hostile during his visit.

He assured residents that he would continue engaging the relevant authorities and work towards ensuring that the Kasoa–Nyanyano road is completed before the 2028 general elections.
