C/R: Police arrest three students in connection with inter school clashes
Three students of the Swedru School of Business have been arrested in connection with the alleged assault of a student from Obrachire Senior High School during an inter-schools sporting event in Agona Swedru, Central Region.
The suspects, identified as Joseph Amoh, 20; Benedict Appiah, 18; and Bilal Mamud, 18, were handed over to the Swedru Divisional Police Command by school authorities on Monday, February 23, 2026, at around 9:00 p.m.
Police action followed an engagement earlier the same day between the school’s management and the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Lydia Yaako Donkor, as part of efforts to ensure a swift investigation into the incident.
According to police sources, the three suspects allegedly participated in the assault on the Obrachire student during activities connected to the ongoing inter-schools games, raising concerns about student safety at sporting events.
Authorities say the suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations, and will be arraigned before court to face the appropriate charges.
The Central Regional Police Command strongly condemned the conduct of the students involved, describing the incident as unacceptable and contrary to the spirit of discipline and sportsmanship expected during school competitions.
Police further urged students across the region to refrain from acts of violence and to resolve disputes peacefully, warning that offenders will face the full rigours of the law.
Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing as police work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and determine whether additional persons were involved.
