C/R: Man clashes with NADMOduring demolitionexercise

Some residents of Kakraba in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region have appealed to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to continue its demolition exercise despite a confrontation with some individuals during the operation.

The incident occurred after NADMO officials directed residents to remove their belongings and structures from waterways to allow the free flow of floodwaters.

The situation reportedly escalated when some individuals resisted the exercise.

Speaking to the media, residents expressed support for the exercise and urged NADMO to remove all structures obstructing waterways to help prevent future flooding in the community.

They also appealed to the government and relevant authorities to construct proper drainage systems to address the perennial flooding problem in the area.

Confirming the incident, the Gomoa East District Director of NADMO, Hassan Hamidu, said some individuals allegedly attempted to attack officials with cutlasses during the exercise. He stressed that NADMO remains committed to enforcing the law and ensuring that all unauthorised structures on waterways are removed in the interest of public safety.

Mr Hamidu further revealed that the Gomoa East NADMO office lacks demolition equipment and is currently relying on manpower to carry out the exercise.
