A 35-year-old carpenter identified as Michael has been electrocuted at One Leg, a suburb of Millennium City in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region, while working on a storey building.

The tragic incident occurred when the carpenter was working on the upper floor of the building.

According to reports, the deceased was receiving pieces of wood from colleagues below when he accidentally came into contact with a high-tension electrical cable running close to the structure.

Eyewitnesses said he was instantly electrocuted, lost consciousness, and fell from the storey building onto a poly tank, resulting in his death.

Speaking in an interview, a traditional leader in the area, Nana Abubakar Sulemana, said he was informed that the deceased came into contact with the high-tension cable while working and subsequently fell onto the poly tank, dying instantly.

The body has since been deposited at the St. Gregory Hospital morgue for preservation and further investigations.

Nana Abubakar Sulemana also called on the Assembly and government to demolish structures built under high-tension cables, stressing that such locations are unsafe for residential or commercial development.

According to him, the deceased was only carrying out his duties on behalf of the property owner, but the decision to construct the building beneath a high-tension cable ultimately led to the unfortunate loss of life.
