Forty-seven fishermen have been rescued after armed robbers attacked them at sea in Senya Bereku in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region.
Earlier reports indicated that the armed men stormed the fishing grounds in a speedboat late at night, firing gunshots to scare the fishermen before making away with seven outboard motors and quantities of fuel.

The victims were left stranded at sea after their motors were removed, leaving the canoes helpless on the water.
A joint search operation by the Police Marine Unit and the Senya Canoe Owners Association led to the safe rescue of 47 occupants from four canoes.

Meanwhile, two of the canoes, carrying 24 occupants, were later rescued at Tema in the Greater Accra Region.
The Central Regional Minister, Hon. Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah, has pledged support to help the victims get back on their feet.

The Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West Constituency, Hon. Gizella Tetteh Agbotui, also stated that the government would provide relief items and new outboard motors to support the affected fishermen.
