Authorities in Burkina Faso have reportedly foiled an attempted coup aimed at assassinating President Ibrahim Traoré and destabilising the country, according to the BBC.
The military government revealed that the plot was uncovered before it could be executed. The country’s Security Minister alleged that the attempt was funded from neighboring Ivory Coast.
“There has been no response from Ivory Coast or from Lieutenant-Colonel Damiba regarding the allegations,” the BBC reported.
The incident highlights ongoing political tensions in the region, though further details on the suspects or the scope of the plot have not yet been released.
