The Builsa North Municipal Health Directorate in the Builsa North Municipality of the Upper East Region took a significant step forward to improve quality health delivery as it inaugurated a Risk Communication Committee at the DHMT conference hall aimed at addressing health-related challenges within the municipality.
The inauguration ceremony, held on April 29, 2024, saw the assembly of key stakeholders from various sectors. Madam Harriete Yeribu, the Municipal Health Director, emphasized the pivotal role the Risk Communication Committee would play in enhancing health delivery, preventing risky behaviors, and raising awareness about potential health hazards for timely interventions. Highlighting the urgent need for action, she pointed out the high incidence of anemia in the municipality, calling for concerted efforts to tackle this issue.
The committee, comprising representatives from diverse sectors including the Traditional Council, Municipal Assembly, Ghana Education Service, Police, Sandema Hospital, and religious organizations, among others, convened to deliberate on the prevailing health challenges. Notably, the municipality’s consistent low performance in regional health reviews emerged as a pressing concern, prompting discussions on strategies to address these challenges effectively.
Mr. PP Apaabey Baba was elected as the Chairperson of the committee, with Madam Harriete Yeribu serving as the Secretary and Derrick Abakisi as the Organizer. The committee members pledged to meet quarterly to engage in robust discussions and formulate actionable plans to address health issues within the municipality.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Alooh Edward Asirazoya, the Municipal Health Promotion Officer, expressed optimism about the committee’s potential to drive positive change and improve health outcomes in the community.
In his remarks, Mr. PP Apaabey Baba, the newly elected Chairperson, reiterated the committee’s commitment to collaborative efforts in addressing health challenges.
