The Builsa North Municipal Education Directorate, in collaboration with UNICEF and Jacobs Foundation, has organized a Reading Festival for pupils in the lower primary level to instill in them the habit of reading.
The reading festival, under the theme “Building a Culture of Reading,” aimed to improve literacy skills and promote a culture of reading among pupils across the Municipality.
The Builsa North Municipal Education Director, Madam Victoria Aganalie Mahama, said the reading festival is a response to the need to boost reading skills among pupils across the Municipality.
Madam Aganalie encouraged students to explore the world of reading to discover new authors, styles, and categories of literature.
She noted that reading for pleasure, knowledge, and to ignite creativity and enhance imagination and reading skills.
She urged parents and guardians to complement the efforts of teachers to promote reading culture and skills in their children.
The pupils were engaged in activities such as floating around the principal streets in Sandema, Charades, Jigsaw puzzles, picture reading, mother and child games, spelling Bee, Drama, and storytelling as part of activities to test their level of comprehension.
The Regional Director of Ghana Library Authority, Mr. Leslie Kansanga, urged parents and guardians to complement the efforts of teachers to promote reading culture and skills in their children.
According to him, even if parents could not read, it is important for them to encourage their children to read aloud to the hearing of a third party.
The pupils who participated in the competition expressed their excitement to Oyerepa News and called for more of such competitions.
