After 150 years, 39 artefacts that are part of Asante’s royal regalia have finally been returned to the Asantehene, the ruler of the Asante Kingdom, in Kumasi, Ghana.
In an exciting announcement made on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, hosted by Akua Asieduwaa, Nana Prof. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei Woahene II, Otumfour Hiahene, revealed that the British have returned a portion of the stolen gold artefacts that were taken from the Asantes during the colonial era.
He expressed that the remaining artefacts are currently en route and will soon join the others. He confidently stated that all 39 pieces would be safely returned to the Otumfuo Museum before the celebration of Sir Garnet Wolseley’s War (Sagrenti War) this month (February).
“The British have returned some gold they took away. Others are underway. Professor Agyemang Duah will appear in Manhyia and disclose to us the good news. He will present the little that has come to Otumfuo on Thursday (8th February 2024).” He said.
The Asante Kingdom is set to commemorate 150 years of the Sagrenti War Silver Jubilee of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II from 6th -8th February 2024.
