The roof of Bredi D/A Primary School in the Atwima Mponuah District has been torn off by strong winds, leaving students with no proper classrooms and forcing them to learn under trees or in overcrowded rooms during the rains.
The storm destroyed more than 33 asbestos roofing sheets, worsening the already deteriorating state of the school’s infrastructure. With the new academic term approaching, residents are appealing for urgent support to restore conducive learning conditions for their children.
“Our children have been learning under trees since the roof was blown away. When it rains, they are forced to squeeze into the few remaining classrooms, and that disrupts their learning,” one concerned parent stated.
The community is calling on government authorities, non-governmental organisations, and philanthropists to help provide essential resources, including a proper school building, desks, and roofing materials, to ensure the students can return to safe and productive learning environments.
Nana Kwaku Gyamfi, Acting Chief of Bredi, also voiced serious concerns about the broader challenges facing the community.
He cited a lack of clean water, poor road networks, no mobile network coverage, and inadequate healthcare facilities as major setbacks to development.
He appealed to the government, the local Member of Parliament, and the District Chief Executive to act swiftly in addressing these infrastructural and social needs.
The residents of Bredi remain hopeful that timely intervention will not only restore the school but also improve the overall living conditions in the area, enabling children to learn in a safe environment and the community to thrive.
