The Ashanti Regional Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a final-year student, Daniel Tuffuor, in connection with the death of Miss Joana Deladem Yabani.
Tuffuor, 21, was taken into custody after CCTV footage from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) campus showed a suspect wearing attire identical to what he had on at the time of the incident. Following a review of the footage, authorities arrested him for questioning.
Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, stated that the suspect is currently assisting with investigations. In response to the tragic incident, the police have intensified 24-hour surveillance on the KNUST campus to enhance security for students and staff.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has personally assured the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, of ongoing efforts to ensure campus safety. In turn, Professor Dickson expressed gratitude to the IGP for his support and commitment to security measures.
Miss Yabani, a final-year Biological Sciences student, was discovered dead at approximately 5:00 a.m. on February 27, 2025. Her body was found near the KNUST Disability and Rehabilitation Centre by the university’s security personnel. Investigations are ongoing.
