The Bosome Freho District Assembly has acknowledged the existence of illegal mining activities, popularly known as galamsey, in the district but says measures are being taken to tackle the menace and ensure that offenders face the law.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bosome Freho, Appiah Kubi, admitted that illegal mining remains a challenge in the area but stressed that the Assembly is committed to protecting the environment and enforcing regulations against those engaged in unlawful mining activities.

“I cannot deny the fact that illegal mining (galamsey) is taking place in Bosome Freho. However, the Assembly is committed to combating this illegal activity and ensuring that those involved are brought to justice,” he said in an interview with Akua Asieduaa on Oyerepa breakfast Time

The DCE explained that the Assembly is working with relevant state institutions and stakeholders to strengthen efforts aimed at curbing illegal mining operations within the district.

He added that anyone found engaging in illegal mining activities would be dealt with according to the laws of Ghana, as the Assembly remains determined to safeguard the district’s natural resources.

Mr Kubi further called for public support in the fight against galamsey, urging residents to provide information that could assist authorities in identifying and stopping illegal mining operations.

He assured residents that the Assembly would continue to collaborate with security agencies and other relevant bodies to promote responsible mining practices and protect the environment.
