The Ahafo Regional Minister, Mrs. Charity Gardiner, has reiterated her dedication to nurturing football talents across the region, stressing that sports development remains one of her top priorities.
She made this known during the official opening of the “Charity Gardiner Trophy”, a grassroots football tournament aimed at identifying and empowering young footballers.
“Football development in my region is one of my topmost priorities. So it’s my biggest aim to redefine the youth with football talents so that they can reach higher levels,” she stated.
The Minister further encouraged the youth and all stakeholders to exhibit excellence in their various endeavours, saying, “Let’s do our best in whatever we’re doing to achieve successes.”
Following the successful completion of the tournament, Mrs Gardiner expressed profound gratitude to all who contributed to its organisation, promotion, and execution.
She acknowledged the dedication of partners, volunteers, the media, and football enthusiasts who helped ensure a smooth and impactful event.
“The success of this event would not have been possible without your unalloyed commitment and express advice. May all that you lost in the process be replenished a hundredfold,” she said.
The Charity Gardiner Trophy was organised by the Ahafo Regional Minister in collaboration with F. A Sports Agency from the United Kingdom and Koppan Sports Agency in Accra.
The tournament aimed to scout talented young players and expose them to international football opportunities.
The competition was held across two zones, the Goaso AstroTurf and the Bechem Nana Fosu Gyeabour Stadium, attracting several teams from various communities in the region.
At the end of the keenly contested tournament, sixty (60) players were successfully scouted by the participating football agencies. These players are expected to secure club contracts soon, a development Mrs Gardiner described as a major victory for the region and a testament to the abundant sporting potential of Ahafo’s youth.
All participating teams received a package of sporting items, including a set of 20 jerseys, shirts, pants, socks, and a football, demonstrating the Minister’s commitment to resourcing grassroots sports development.
Mrs Gardiner emphasised that the Charity Gardiner Trophy will remain an annual event aimed at developing young players and placing Ahafo on the national and international football map.
She assured the youth that more opportunities would be created to help them realise their dreams.
