BoG names 20 unlicensed digital loan apps

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has released a list of 20 digital credit service providers operating without the required licence, warning the public to exercise caution when dealing with such platforms.

In a statement issued on Monday, August 3, the central bank said it had identified a number of mobile loan applications offering digital lending services in Ghana without obtaining the necessary approval or authorisation.

According to the BoG, the activities of these operators violate the Directive for Digital Credit Service Providers in Ghana, issued in September 2025 under Notice No. BG/GOV/SEC/2025/30, as well as other applicable laws governing the financial sector.

The central bank explained that the affected entities have been providing loans to the public through digital platforms despite not being licensed to carry out such services.

As a result, the BoG has published the names of the 20 unlicensed digital loan applications to alert consumers and encourage them to verify the regulatory status of digital lenders before accessing their services.

The Bank reiterated its commitment to protecting consumers and maintaining the integrity of Ghana’s financial system, urging the public to patronise only digital credit providers that have been duly licensed and authorised to operate in the country.
