The Bank of Ghana (BOG) has issued a warning to mobile money loan defaulters and has requested that they pay the various telecom companies.
The country’s Apex Bank said in a statement that it has taken cognizance of defaulters who have failed to register their sim cards under the ongoing sim card registration.
The Bank of Ghana also stated that some people who owe money have decided to throw away their sim cards.
However, there is data on all persons owing momo loans and will therefore crack the whip because they are now not creditworthy which may affect them in the future when they need loans.
Ghana is currently engaged in a re-registration of the sim cards exercise.
However, some persons have refused to register their sim cards for reasons best known to them whiles others are unable to register because they have not been able to get their Ghana Card which is the only form of identification for the card.
Some persons who think the September 30 deadline is a breach of right have sued the National Communications Authority and the Communications Ministry.
