Angry residents of Boankra in the Ejisu Municipality of the Ashanti Region are requesting back their lands if the government is reluctant to build the Boankra Inland Port.
Recall that, President Akufo-Addo cut sod on the Boankra Integrated Logistics Terminal in the Ashanti region in November 2020. The project scheduled to have commenced work in March 2021 is yet to be completed.
In an interview on Oyerepa Breakfast Show, the Assembly member for the area, Samuel Fordjour, lamented that the lands which they use for farming to feed their families have been taken from them without being compensated. The project for which the lands were taken has also not been done, leaving the youth in hardship.
“There are no jobs in this town, we only farm to feed our families. They told us the Port will create jobs for us so they took our lands. For over 19 years, the project has not begun. Our lands are going waste “ the assemblyman bemoaned.
Another resident called on the government to give them back their lands if they won’t construct the Port for them. He disclosed that the administration block they built on the site is in a deplorable state.
“The government should give us back our lands if they are not ready to construct the Inland Port. Even the administration block they built at the site is in a deplorable state, the ceilings are falling off, you can come and see,“ he said.
