“Bernice Offei battled dementia for nearly five years before her death” – Kwasi Ernest
Former manager of late gospel musician Bernice Offei, Kwasi Ernest, has disclosed that the veteran singer lived with dementia for about four to five years before her death at age 63.

He explained that Bernice Offei’s condition became more pronounced around the time she went missing, leaving her unable to identify her residence. Her family initially conducted a private search before seeking public assistance.
“She left home and the ailment was triggered, so she couldn’t locate her house. After the initial search by the family wasn’t yielding results, they made the search public and they later found her,” he added.
After she was located, her relatives reportedly took her to a medical facility for treatment. Her condition nevertheless continued to worsen until her death on Saturday, September 12, 2026.
Beyond her career as a gospel musician, Kwasi Ernest remembered Bernice Offei as a woman whose Christian faith was reflected in her personal life. He described her as disciplined and deeply committed to the values she preached, saying she made conscious efforts to practise her beliefs rather than merely speak about them.
Bernice Offei’s death has since triggered tributes from colleagues, church figures and admirers, with her music and Christian legacy continuing to keep her memory alive.
