A Kumasi based legal practitioner, Lawyer William Kusi has chastised the Ashanti Regional Minister over his decision to hold the impending New Patriotic Party Regional Executive Elections at a state-owned facility.
The minister, Simon Osei Mensah, who is also the Chairman of the NPP Election Committee, announced that the polls would be held at his residence, the Regional Coordinating Council, on Friday, May 27, 2022.
He stated on Oyerepa Fm, “Certain people have planned to create violence in the impending elections hence the decision to vote at RCC.”
But, Lawyer William Kusi believes no mature person will hold party activities in a state’s facility.
“I was surprised to hear the Minister said NPP will hold their elections at RCC…. We are saying that it not right for the party to be using states facility.”
According to him, the minister should know better, he should behave like a mature person.
“This regional minister has a problem…. He should know better… He should behave like a mature person when he gets a position… I’m teaching him sense,” he said.
The lawyer said, the minister should change the election venue to a private place like the Baba Yara Stadium to avoid controversy.
“To avoid any controversy take the polls to a private place for instance stadium.”
He advised the leadership of the NPP to do what’s right if indeed they want to break the eight.
“If NPP wants to break the eight, the power struggle must end. If they really want to break the eight then they should know what to do. The ‘mafia’ must stop.”
“As a party, the whole system is working against you now, so you must do the right thing.” Lawyer Kusi stated on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, hosted by Akua Asieduwa.
Meanwhile, the NPP has postponed the Ashanti Regional Executive Elections until further notice. The venue for the polls is likely to be changed. The leadership of the party will address the media today to give the latest development of the elections to the press. This is in relation to numerous concerns raised by aspirants of the polls.
