“Be mindful of how you speak” – Obaapa Christy warns social media users
Gospel musician Christiana Love Antwi, popularly known as Obaapa Christy, has cautioned social media users against making reckless comments and insulting others without knowing their personal struggles or backgrounds.
Speaking in an interview on Oyerepa Breakfast Time with Nana Ama Intsiful, the veteran gospel musician urged people to be more careful with their words, particularly when reacting to trending issues on social media.
Obaapa Christy noted that people often reveal their true thoughts through what they say, stressing that not every issue requires a public response.
“What I know is that whatever comes out of a person’s mouth, if you haven’t spoken, we don’t know what is in your mind. But at the moment you speak, then we know what is in your mind. That is why the Bible cautions us against speaking. Not everything we hear are we supposed to say,” she said.
She urged social media users to avoid jumping onto every trend, explaining that they may not know what others have endured before reaching their current position.
“You don’t know the life of other people, their background, or what they have suffered through. So, if you follow every trend, it won’t help. What I’m saying is that we should be mindful of how we speak because the world is not as simple as we see it. Let’s be careful about certain things. Not everything you have to say,” she added.
Obaapa Christy also advised people who become targets of social media attacks not to allow negative comments to distract them from their goals.
“And to the person being talked about, what do you say about whatever is being said about you? You also have to work hard, remove your attention from that, and follow what God says,” she stated.
Her comments come amid growing concerns about insults, personal attacks and the rush to comment on viral issues on social media, where individuals are often criticised without the full facts surrounding their circumstances.
Obaapa Christy’s advice is a reminder that while social media provides a platform for free expression, responsible communication and restraint remain important, particularly when dealing with people’s personal lives.
