A letter addressed to the Minister of Education has requested the withdrawal of the statement directing Basic Education Certificate Education (BECE) graduates to report to school on October 30, 2024.
According to Shaibu Mohammed, executive director of Better Dream Foundation Ghana (BDFG), the directive has raised concerns about undue stress and logistical challenges for students and parents, particularly given the short notice.
The foundation also requested for the stakeholder’s engagement to determine a more suitable reporting date. This development comes amidst updates on the 2024 BECE grading system and school placement procedures.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) initially announced that SHS1 students would commence term one of the 2024-2025 academic year on September 27, 2024. However, this was deemed impractical since WAEC was still marking BECE exams in early October.
