The Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, submitted a motion of censure against Finance Minister Kenneth Ofori-Atta, which the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, approved.
Speaker Bagbin declared the motion’s acceptance and stated that it was legal.
As a result, he opened the floor to start debating the motion.
Speaker Bagbin had formed an ad hoc committee of eight members to give the Finance Minister a chance to be heard.
The committee, jointly chaired by Adansi Asokwa MP KT Hammond and Bolgatanga East MP Dr Dominic Ayine, was given seven days within which to complete work.
Mr Ofori-Atta and representatives of the Public Interest Accountability Committee (PIAC) and Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) appeared before the committee.
Speaker Bagbin thanked the committee for its work and said the decision to refer the motion to the committee has “vindicated my conviction”.
He said the move is “proper and in accordance of the law”.
“The House may now proceed to debate the motion,” Speaker Bagbin ruled.
