Some years back, Ghana was the leading cocoa producer in the world. But since the influx of illegal mining activities, the country’s cocoa production has depreciated.
Almost all the cocoa farms in Ashanti, Bono, Western and the Eastern regions have been destroyed by galamseyers.
A lot of the youth are not interested in farming, so to speak cocoa farming, because of perception about successive governments, thus negligence about the plight of farmers.
This and many other reasons caused a caller to weep bitterly live on Oyerepa TV.
Calling on Oyerepa Breakfast Time on Wednesday, a caller known as Ebenezer, expressed his displeasure about the rate at which cocoa farms are being destroyed by illegal mining activities.
In the course of his submission, he burst into tears, wailed, his heart thrown into despair, good farm lands being destroyed in the quest to find gold.
He lamented,
“This morning I don’t know what to do….. If Western Region is the leading producer of cocoa then Ghana we don’t have cocoa.”
“I grew up in a community called Sefwi Maase in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region. If I cast my mind back to my childhood days when my parents will wake us up early in the morning to plug cocoa and in the end have some amount of money for living, and today, galamseyers have destroyed all our cocoa farms, it saddens my heart, I’m so sad.”😢😢😢
“Ghana was the leading producer of cocoa but now, all our farm lands are destroyed, and cocoa farming isn’t lucrative anymore. I’m so sad. My heart is bleeding.”😭😭
“We put all our trust in politicians , but here we’re , how to even get food has become a problem.”😭😭😭😭
“God will punish people who are destroying our lands!!!”😡😡
